How to Make Your Boss Notice You for a Promotion

At some point or another, you're going to want a promotion from your employer. You'll need a strategy to keep yourself in his or her mind for that opportunity. Here are some tips for doing that. 

Excel at Customer Service

Customers are the most important people to an employer because they are the people who spend their money with the firm. Therefore, you can prove yourself an asset to the company if you can excel at making them happy. Focus on putting a smile on everyone's face by solving their problems and going out of your way to do extra things for them. Ask them to leave reviews and comment cards with positive notes. Your employer will remember you that way. 

Be the Go-To Person

You can also get in your employer's head by being the "go-to" person. The "go-to" person is the person who is always there and will always be there whether it's raining or shining. This person will say yes 99 percent of the time if the employer asks him or her to come in on a day off when someone calls out from work. If you can be that person, you can most likely get a promotion based on the value you provide to your employer. 

Express Interest in the Promotion

Lastly, you have to express interest in the promotion if you want your employer to consider you. Employees sometimes assume that their bosses know what they want. They assume that these people know that their goal is to move up on the corporate ladder. The truth is that an employer will pass a person by if he or she does not specify the desire to move up. You have to find the time to talk to your boss and let him or her know that you would like that person to develop you. Once the employer knows you want to move up, he or she may put you with someone who can sort of mold you and train you until the time comes when you receive your promotion.
